Create London and the VELOCITY East End Commission
17:30 on 17 October 2013
Second in the 2013 Autumn Series of VELOCITY Talks: Hadrian Garrard, Director of Create will present their work, in the context of being awarded the VELOCITY East End Commission.
Create exists to spread the benefits of being home to Europe’s largest cultural quarter to people living in east London. Despite having the highest concentration of artists and creative businesses in the UK, the area has low levels of cultural engagement and remains one of the most deprived parts of the country. Create’s work aims to bridge the traditional barriers of class, culture and education between artists and people from all social backgrounds. After 4 years of delivering projects across communities in east London, many in response to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Create are now undertaking a major project in Glasgow – the VELOCITY East End Commission.
VELOCITY presents a series of regular talks and conversations inviting speakers to address issues arising from the VELOCITY programme. The events also offer networking opportunities for VELOCITY stakeholders: professionals working in city planning and urban regeneration, creative practitioners, artists, architects, designers, producers and arts professionals.
17.30 – doors open | presentation plus questions/discussion | drinks/networking | end – 19.30
The talks programme is supported by Creative Scotland and The Lighthouse.
