Exhibition Talk by Andrzej Klimowski: Tomorrow Was a Montage
18:00 on 19 November 2015
Cooper Gallery Exhibitions, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design University of Dundee, 13 Perth Road, DD1 4HT
In this talk, esteemed Polish graphic artist and designer Andrzej Klimowski will discuss the practice of collage as a prevalent method used in Polish graphic art and design throughout the twentieth century, reflecting on the works of artists in Tomorrow Was a Montage and their contemporaries in the Polish Poster School.
Andrzej Klimowski studied painting at St Martin’s School of Art in London and graphic design at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in Poland. Klimowski has designed theatre and film posters, contributed illustrations and designs for book publishers and the national press, and made experimental short films. He has further taught in several art schools in the UK and Europe, including the Royal College of Art in London where he is now Professor Emeritus.
Tomorrow Was a Montage is an exhibition at Cooper Gallery that brings together work by Polish and Hungarian artists and film-makers from three generations, demonstrating the enduring cogency of montage as an artistic method that subverts the convention and the norm.
