Laura Simpson is responsible for managing the arts and cultural programme at Hospitalfield.
After graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in Dundee she became Chair of the artist-led group Generator Projects (2001 – 2002) and then developed exhibitions and events with artists, designers and researchers in her role as Assistant Curator at the galleries at DJCAD (2007 – 2013). In 2009 she led Nine Trades of Dundee, which commissioned UK artists to work within nine workplaces.
In 2012 she attended Vessel International Curatorial Workshop in Puglia, Italy. She has a specific interest in artist’s film and between 2008 and 2012 carried out two research projects funded by Scottish Arts Council Bursaries with several outcomes including, You blink at the plughole, at M.E.X.I.C.O., Leeds. The first project focused on the presentation of German and UK video art, including trips to European Media Arts Festival, Osnabreuck, NBKV, Berlin and Hoche Schule fur Bilde Kunst, Braunschweig.
She is on the Board of Berwick Film and Media Art Festival and the jury for the Margaret Tait Film Award 2015-16. She is a founding Trustee of Silo Projects which facilitates cultural events in an industrial heritage site in Cupar.
