A mix of small quilts cover the entire image. They are stitched in many different ways, using fabric of different colours and textures. The text over the image reads: Bel Pye’s a soft place to land. 14 September - 26 October.

a soft place to land is an exhibition of textile sculptures, wall quilts and hangings inspired by natural elements. Stitched by Bel Pye, this exhibition holds a sensory space within texture, play and rest. Most of the materials used are recycled or repurposed. a soft place to land has challenged the artist to increase the size of their work, as most of their previous work was lap-sized and often made whilst watching telly.

Pye focuses on the experience of making, rather than the finished product, asking themselves what they enjoy from the process: Is it the rhythm of the stitches, the feel of the material, the weight of the project on their lap? Pye hopes people will enjoy exploring the objects as much as they have enjoyed making them.

Bell will also be doing an artist talk event, open to the public, on Friday the 11th of October (1-2pm). This talk will be supported by a BSL-English interpreter.
