n this three-week course, you will learn how to coil-build ceramic sculptures and explore a range of mark-making techniques using clay slips, oxides and relief techniques. Makers will be invited to explore materials, experiment, and allow the flow of the coiling process to inspire your final works!

This class will be a space to work with clay without any predetermined results, allowing you to explore your creativity. You will be shown the range of techniques to ignite ideas, and then you will be allowed to use these in whatever way you so choose, with a tutor on hand the whole time to discuss ideas.

The first two weeks of this course will involve learning the coiling process to produce 2-3 sculptural forms, as well as a range of finishing techniques to refine the surface of your piece. The third and final week will involve decorating the pieces using various coloured slips and oxide washes, and you will be shown a range of techniques for applying these. You will also be shown a technique called sgraffito to enhance textures.

This class is suitable for complete beginners and those with more experience in clay.
