LUX Scotland are delighted to present six audio works commissioned as part of Now & Next, 2019 – 22, by artists Aideen Doran, K Patrick & Adrien Howard, Mariem Omari & Heather Andrews, Wild Tracks Radio & Richy Carey, William Aikman, and Zoë Irvine!
These works will be available to listen to for the month of September, here.
Now & Next was a talent development scheme run by LUX Scotland in partnership with BBC Arts, Screen Scotland and LUX Scotland. The scheme ran between 2019 – 22 and focused on nurturing and showcasing emerging creative voices. Now & Next offered artists working in a wide range of disciplines from across Scotland the opportunity to create audio and audio-visual commissions for BBC platforms.
These complex and layered works approach audio in different ways through collaborative sound making, experimental narrative, dramatisation and documentary. Exploring a range of subjects and themes, the works investigate isolation, faith, trans identities, biassed histories and audio itself through diverse subjects including fictional adventurers, a forgotten village, and mental illness.
Many of the commissioned works have been broadcast by the BBC on public service platforms including on BBC Arts’ social channels, BBC Radio and BBC websites.
This presentation follows on from our online screening of the 28 moving image works commissioned as part of Now & Next. We look forward to presenting the Now & Next young people’s commissions later this year.
