Alasdair Gray: Omnium Gatherum
Exhibition Runs: 07 February – 12 April 2020
Private View: 06 February 2020, 6pm – 8pm

An exhibition celebrating the life of & works in print by Alasdair Gray who sadly passed away at the end of 2019.

Alasdair Gray worked closely with Glasgow Print Studio from the late1970s until his death. Perhaps best known as a novelist, his first book The Comedy of the White Dog, was published by the Glasgow Print Studio Press in 1979. In 1981, he published his seminal novel Lanark: A Life in Four Books, alongside which he produced a set of six printed illustrations at Glasgow Print Studio. Since that time, Gray became known as a creative polymath, producing murals, poetry, novels, plays, prints, paintings and illustrations.

Gray made occasional prints throughout his life and later on printmaking became a major part of his artistic output. In 2008 he completed the series of screenprints, The Scots Hippo, in which he reimagined the T S Elliot poem, The Hippopotamus, in Lowland Scots, each verse illustrated in Alasdair’s inimitable style.

Alasdair went on to make many more screenprints at Glasgow Print Studio and was working on a new one that he hoped to complete in time for this exhibition.

This exhibition will showcase Alasdair’s works in print produced at GPS since 1981

It was a great privilege to know him and to work with him and he will be missed. Fortunately he leaves behind a great legacy for future generations to experience and enjoy.
