Blair McLaughlin: Triomphe de la République

29 November 2019 until 30 December 2019
Arusha Gallery, 13A Dundas Street

Blair McLaughlin: Triomphe de la République

Private view: 6-8pm, Thursday 28th November – all welcome.
Exhibition continues: 29th November to 30th December

Situated at the intersection of violence, politics and riots, Blair McLaughlin’s bold new body of work challenges our preconceived ideas of shared space, civil society and human expression.

The exhibition takes its title from the prime location of several political protests in Paris and builds upon McLaughlin’s ongoing interest in riots, civil unrest and protest. Though McLaughlin describes himself as being ‘analytically detached’ from his work, the dynamic brushstrokes and arresting subject matter suggests otherwise. In the lashings of heavy paint and the thundering motion of his subjects, McLaughlin’s work is kinetic and disquieting.

Double winner of the Elizabeth Greenshields Grant (2017 and 2018), the RSA John Kinross Scholarship (2016), the Dewar Art Award (2015) Blair McLaughlin graduated from Glasgow School of Art with an MLitt in Fine Art Practice, he lives and works in Glasgow.
