Shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall seven photographers from East Germany founded their own agency OSTKREUZ in 1990. The basic idea: a collective, with the aim to promote photography that was reality oriented and free from any political constraints. Since its founding, the agency has established itself as one of the most significant photography agencies in Germany as well as the most important photography school in Berlin. Now with 22 members, one thing unites them: a humanistic worldview.
Berlin based filmmaker Maik Reichert accompanied OSTKREUZ over several years and his delicate film tells the photographers’ story both with and without the Wall.
