Linocut Taster Workshop
17:30 on 26 March 2020
Peacock Visual Arts
On Thursday 26th March join James Vass for a Linocut Taster Workshop. This taster session will introduce you to the relief technique that is lino cutting.
Relief printing is one of the oldest ways of making a print. With linocut printing, you will make a small block by cutting away the areas you do not want the ink to pick up. This is a very spatial way of working, leaving the surface of the lino to take the ink using rollers. This way your ink cannot be deposited into all your cut out areas. You will be able to use the Columbian Press that stamps down a heavy bed onto your paper, thus transposing the inky block to your printing paper.
As a 3 hour taster session there will be a number of aspects of the process already prepared in advance of your arrival. We would ask class participants to bring along any sketches, drawings or materials they may find inspiration for their images. During the class we’ll be working to an A5 (21 × 14.8 cm) size.
All materials provided.
Our taster sessions offer a hands on introduction to some of the key printmaking processes offered here at Peacock Visual Arts.
These taster sessions are great for people who have little to no prior experience of printmaking but would like to find out more about the processes, but also for people who would like to refresh themselves on a particular technique.
