Model, Mould, Cast – Ceramic Slip Casting with Dawn Youll

Wednesdays | 1800 – 2030

6th, 13th, 20th, 27th March, 3rd, 10th & 17th of April

This course will provide an introduction to plaster as a material for model and mould making specifically for ceramic slip casting. Over a series of 7 sessions you will be introduced to model making using plaster and found objects and learn how to make simple plaster moulds. From these you will be able to transform your moulded form into a piece of glazed, slip cast ceramics and be introduced to electric kiln firing. This is intended as a basic introduction to plaster and to ceramic slip casting so no prior experience is necessary.

Dawn Youll is a ceramicist living and working in Glasgow. The urban landscape, the studio environment and the making process itself all find their way into her ceramic sculptures. By combining forms, colours and surfaces she creates curious compositions on a domestic scale “to communicate, celebrate and make sense of the world around us”.

Dawn’s work has featured in numerous exhibitions across the UK and abroad and she has represented the UK in Denmark at the European Ceramic Context 2010 exhibition and in France at a WCC-Europe exhibition. Dawn has an MA in Ceramics from the Centre for Ceramic Studies, Cardiff (2008) and a BA in Ceramic Design from Glasgow School of Art (1999).

She is represented by Marsden Woo Gallery in the UK.
