Moyna Flannigan and Susannah Thompson in conversation
18:30 on 17 May 2019
A-M-G5, 106 Oxford House, 71 Oxford Street, G5 9EP
In this Q&A style talk, Moyna Flannigan will discuss her recent work with art historian and critic Susannah Thompson, focusing on the collage and paintings which comprise the new exhibition Girl with Tear. Flannigan will consider some of recurrent themes in her work – the representation of women in art, the recuperation of the figure in painting and her use of imagery drawn from art history and popular culture – as well as looking in detail at the decisions around some recent formal departures for her practice. The works in Girl with Tear highlight Flannigan’s experimentation with new materials and processes (distemper, collage) which led to the production of a body of work which is both generative and self-referential.
