New Editions by Lucy Skaer following print residency at DCA
2 February 2015 until 22 March 2015
Dundee Contemporary Arts
Dundee Contemporary Arts are pleased to announce a series of new work by Lucy Skaer commissioned as part of our first series of Print Studio artist residencies. The editions by Lucy Skaer are now on display upstairs in the Print Space above DCA shop.
Lucy Skaer’s series of prints began with her own photographs of first-edition books produced by Virginia and Leonard Woolf at their Hogarth Press, a self-publishing initiative born from their rejection of the dominance of commercial printing, and a desire to reclaim the means of production. Their book covers were made in traditional hand-craft processes such as marbling, paste-papermaking and painting. Through experimentation with different printing methods Skaer has reconstructed a likeness of each book cover, removed from its original function and devoid of title details, creating new prints that project some quality of each book’s original appearance.
