OSCILLATIONS @ CCA - An immersive installation by Victoria Evans
18:00 on 10 August 2019
CCA, 350 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, GLG G2 3JD
Victoria Evans presents her new immersive work ‘Oscillations’ at the CCA theatre.
Free (non-ticketed). Wheelchair accessible.
Curated by Javier Aregger
Inspired by science and the complex inter-relatedness of the physical world, Oscillations reflects the artist’s interest in the way distant or invisible phenomena can have a tangible effect on our day-to-day lives.
Using a process of data sonification as a starting point, Evans makes audible the rhythmic, cyclical tidal patterns of the Clyde river and their interplay with lunar and solar orbits throughout the course of a year.
Oscillations brings the experience to an immediate, physical level for the audience, creating a spatial and sonic landscape rich in sensory and poetic associations.
About the artist:
Victoria Evans is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Glasgow. Evans works across a shifting combination of moving image, sound, sculpture and installation. Her work is engaged with the tension between lived experience and abstraction and exploring ideas of time, location and reality and is often inspired by science and philosophy.
Javier Aregger is a curator, occasional sound artist and photographer based between Dumfries & Galloway and Glasgow. He is interested in breaking down the barriers between art, technology and science. His curatorial approach is centered on the relationship between sound, space and visual art practices.
