Spring Fling 2015
23 May 2015 until 25 May 2015
Every year, it’s a brand new adventure!
Year 13 – our lucky year!
Discover hand carved stone and painterly photography, jewellery for men and a film about the internet, apple trees and tactile textiles, grainstore to garden shed – dig deep and you’ll find there really is something for all tastes.
The whole event – as always – is inspired by and focused around our wonderful professional artists and makers and their generosity in welcoming us into their spaces. Expect well kent faces as well as recent graduates and new names, ready to be discovered.
From the 23 – 25 May visitors are welcomed to D&G where 94 Artists and Makers will open their doors and showcase the work they produce, each specially selected for the high quality of their work. Many studios are open late night to give visitors longer to take it all in. Friday (22nd 6 -8pm preview), Saturday or Sunday (23rd, 24th til’ 8pm).
While studio hopping look out for our roving poet-in-residence encouraging you to look more deeply and talk more expressively about the art you see all around. Embrace all things epicurean with our friends at The Stove Network who you will meet across the region travelling sustainably, and discovering and cooking the local food produce available on our doorstep with our Running on Empty programme (#RunningOnEmpty), showcasing the year of Food and Drink.
We’ll be reaching out further in 2015 – as far as Berlin – with our inaugural international exhibition. And closer to home we will connect more deeply with Edinburgh through a national exhibition in our capital city.
Visitors are able to visit studios, dine with artists and discover the region over the weekend on the Spring Fling bus or as part of the official Spring Fling cycle ride.
The 2015 brochure and map will be launched soon where you can buy a copy from our shop ahead of the event or if you are a local business you can request a copy. Our Friends of Spring Fling will each receive a brochure in advance, sign up today to get your copy as well as taking advantage of other ‘Friends’ benefits; Whilst in D&G and special offers from selected artists and makers during the Spring Fling weekend.
Our official 2015 Spring Fling poster has been designed by Kirsty Dougan, P7, from Carsphain Primary – Kirsty was the winner of the Spring Fling Schools Poster Competition after such a successful first year where 6 year old Naomi McCreath took the title. The winner along with the runners-up and each school winner will be exhibited alongside our Young Artists exhibition at Gracefield Arts Centre from the 28th February – 4th April.
