Artful Migration Residency Programme

Closing date 5 December 2022

Upland is seeking to appoint an artist-in-residence for the Artful Migration residency programme.

The Artful Migration residency programme offers artists a unique insight into the ecology of migratory birds in Dumfries & Galloway by working in partnership with local nature conservation bodies, and the opportunity to create publicly engaging, original artworks as a creative response.

This marks the third and final instalment of our Artful Migration series and follows on from our initial pilot hosted by WWT Caerlaverock, which looked at whooper swans and their familial ties, and subsequent 2020 edition at NTS Threave Garden & Estate, which looked at ospreys and their associated habitats. Each residency culminated in the exhibition of new work informed by research undertaken by the artist in residence.

This residency is presented in association with Forestry and Land Scotland and RSPB Scotland and will run from January to October 2023. The artist in residence, with the support of our partner organisations, will investigate the elusive nightjar at nearby Lochar Mosses sites and produce work reflective of its ecology, known conservation issues and how these are being exacerbated by anthropogenic climate change.

Deadline: Monday 5th December 2022 at 12(NOON)

The project has been developed in partnership with Moving Souls Dance.
