Board Member at The Common Guild

Closing date 21 February 2025

The Common Guild is currently looking to appoint two new board members to help support the
organisation. Having moved into a new long-term home in 2024 and secured Creative Scotland
funding through to 2028, it is an exciting time to join the team that helps make it all happen.

We are keen to appoint individuals who care about contemporary art and public engagement,
especially people of colour working in the cultural sector, who will complement the range of
skills and experience of our Board. All board members are vital supporters of and advocates for
The Common Guild, helping extend our reach, networks and possibilities across all of our work.
Relevant skills and experience might include any of the following:

• varied experience as a practicing artist (or writer),
• working knowledge of equalities practices and principles, including anti-racist practice,
accessibility and tackling low income as a barrier to access
• awareness of best practice in contemporary art production, including knowledge of
organisations and networks
• a strong and active interest in arts and / or cultural policy, especially in Glasgow
• public engagement work in the cultural sector

The priorities for current appointments are: to diversify our board membership; and to appoint
at least one practicing artist. The board meets 4 times per year and comprises 8 members in total. Participation is unpaid but any expenses incurred in attending, including, for example, child-care, travel or time can be
covered to mitigate any barriers to participation. No formal qualifications or experience as a charity trustee are necessary. If you are interested in finding out more or would like to discuss, please contact Director, Katrina Brown: [email protected].

To apply, please send an expression of interest outlining your suitability to:
[email protected] with the subject line ‘BOARD MEMBERSHIP’ by Friday 21st February 2025.

THE COMMON GUILD is a leading visual arts organisation based in Glasgow. It
was initially established in 2006 and has since presented an international
programme of contemporary visual art projects, exhibitions, and events,
including a range of talks and collaborations. We are committed to
presenting artists’ work in interesting and engaging ways and aim to offer
access to world-class contemporary art experiences and discussions.
In summer 2024, The Common Guild moved to a new long-term home in the
former school building at 5 Florence Street, where we recommenced regular
exhibition programme in October 2024. This re-location has allowed us to
achieve improved physical access for both our operations and our public
programme.
