Duty Manager
Closing date 23 October 2024
Fruitmarket is looking to add a member to its Duty Management team with a special focus on bookselling. The role is a diverse one that covers the day to day running of the venue, but it is based largely within the bookshop, and we are looking to grow the expertise in this important area of Fruitmarket’s front-facing retail offer.
Fruitmarket aims to welcome, inspire and empower audiences across Scotland, the UK and the world, breaking down barriers to ensure a diverse range of people see themselves reflected, represented and recognised in Fruitmarket’s programmes.
Our Front of House teams are the first point of contact for visitors and vital in achieving this aim. They are able to support visits with information about the exhibition and artists offer expert advice in the shop, and to discuss the work on display and deliver talks and tours for group visits.
Duty Managers are based within the team of Information Assistants. They are responsible on shift for the whole building, liaising with their equivalent manager in the Café team, to ensure the safety of the building and those visiting or working within it. They have a supervisory role with Information Assistants whilst working Duty Manager shifts, supporting their performance and ensuring standards are maintained consistently.
There is no set shift pattern; shifts are spread between daytime, evening and weekend working. Some of these hours would be targeted towards bookshop-specific tasks such as handling returns, shelving books, booking in stock, and maintain accurate records on our stock control system including stocktakes.
Fruitmarket aims to reach people who have been under represented in audiences, in our team and in the sector and have prioritised increasing representation of disabled people, people who are black, Asian or from an ethnic minority background. The Fruitmarket Gallery welcomes all people no matter their age, race, gender, sex, sexual orientation, religion or belief, class, cultural background, disability, marital status, pregnancy or maternity status.
