Inverness Openarts Project Coordinator
Closing date 6 September 2021
Wasps wishes to recruit a Freelance Project Coordinator to lead a new community visual arts initiative at our new studio building and creative hub in Inverness – Inverness Creative Academy.
Wasps is a charity and social enterprise which has been operating in Scotland for 44 years. We are now Scotland’s largest provider of supported artists’ studio space, supporting 1,000 creative individuals and organisations at 20 buildings across the country, from Shetland to Selkirk.
Inverness Creative Academy is Wasps largest creative hub in the North of Scotland, based at the much-loved Midmills buildings in the centre of Inverness.
Work on Inverness Creative Academy started in 2018, and its final phase is on site and due for completion later in 2021. This £5.7m, major new creative hub for the Highlands is already home to 34 working artists, and a range of exhibitions, events, and workshops in Phase 1. The completion of Phase 2 will see the addition of 54 flexible co-working workspaces, a public gallery, additional meeting and events spaces, and a café.
Inverness Creative Academy provides an opportunity for Wasps to support community engagement on a larger scale – which we will do through Inverness Openarts.
Inverness Openarts is a pilot community arts project designed to increase access to, and benefits from, Inverness Creative Academy. Wasps has secured funding to run the project during term time from September 2021 – June 2024.
The main aim of Inverness Openarts is to provide an inclusive, supportive and welcoming environment for individuals from all backgrounds to take part in creative activity – improving health, wellbeing, skills, confidence and social inclusion.
