Midsteeple Quarter Creative Commission

Midsteeple Quarter and Upland are offering a creative commission which enables an artist to explore the history and contemporary vision of the Midsteeple Quarter buildings, during the initial phase of this major regeneration scheme taking place on Dumfries High Street.

We are looking for an artist who can:

  • Work part time on the project over 8 months (from April – November 2023)
  • Can be in Dumfries on key dates and throughout the period for research and development and community engagement
  • Deliver creative workshops and engagement events for young people, families, adults and members of the public
  • Respond creatively and thoughtfully to the ambitions and vision of the Midsteeple Quarter and its community / locality
  • Create an innovate artwork(s) for (temporary) public display, which have been developed from the community engagement process and draws attention to the refurbishment/ construction which will be ongoing at the Phase One site throughout the commission period. This construction will enable a new purpose for the building as a new mixed-use facility with transformation impacts upon the High Street and how people perceive what the High Street is for.

The artist will work closely with the Midsteeple Quarter and their Community Engagement Activator, who will assist in connecting the artist to local groups for workshops / participation. MSQ will also provide workspace and potentially exhibition space (if required) for the artist at another of their vacant spaces on the High Street. Upland will provide ongoing support for the artist throughout the project period and will initiate regular meetings with the artist. The project is based in Dumfries on the High Street.
