About Gaada:
Gaada is an artist-led organisation developing resources and opportunities for an intersectional community of artists in Shetland. Our founding aim is to contribute towards a visual culture within Shetland which is more dynamic and representative of the diverse demographic of communities and individuals that exist across the isles. At present we achieve this aim through the developing provision of Shetland’s only visual art making space, Toogs Artist Workshop, alongside an ambitious annual programme of workshops, exhibitions, publishing, and artist development activity.
At a national level, Gaada visibly champions remote, rural environments as sites of artistic endeavour whilst continuing to build supportive networks of dialogue and exchange with neighbouring artists and organisations in Scotland, Norway and beyond.
Job Context:
Gaada’s day-to-day operation is led by a small team of artist staff with support from the wider board of Directors + Advisors. Each one of the core team focuses on leading specific areas of work, whilst also contributing to the effective running of Gaada’s overall programme through daily admin, organisational tasks, and running public-facing workshops and events. Gaada invests in the development of its staff, through training and support, and we are looking for another artist + organiser to join our core team – someone who is able to adapt and grow, alongside the organisation’s own ambitious development for visual art in Shetland.
Possessing genuine passion for collaborative working is absolutely vital, as well as an strong understanding of barriers faced by underrepresented communities entering the creative industries, and how our work can help alleviate some of these barriers. We pride ourselves on being a community organisation that holds inclusivity at its heart.
The Role:
Gaada is looking for a Risograph and Screen-printing artist + organiser who can enthusiastically support the delivery of one-to-one and group workshops accessed by an intersectional community of artists each week through the Toogs Artist Workshop.
Each of the core team supports the operational processes that enable Gaada to run and grow. After a period of settling into the role, you will be supported to manage some key organisational processes, including: Photographic documentation, Communications, and more.

- Stage 1 Interviews will take place Online during w/c March 25th 2024.
- Stage 2 interviews will take place in Shetland during w/c April 22nd 2024.
Interview expenses (including access costs, travel, and accommodation) for candidates shortlisted for a Stage 2 Interview will be covered by Gaada.
As part of the interview process, you will be asked to undertake a practical assessment.
