RSA Blackadder Houston Mid-Career Painter Awards
Closing date 1 October 2023
The Royal Scottish Academy is delighted to announce that applications are open for two substantial new awards for mid-career painters funded by the RSA Blackadder Houston Bequest.
RSA Blackadder Houston Mid-Career Painting Award (£20,000)
An annual award of £20,000 for a mid-career painter, which provides an extensive development and production opportunity for a fine art painter. The aim of this award is to enable a committed painter to devote themselves exclusively to painting for a period of time of up to 26 weeks, which they would otherwise not be able to do, due to other commitments such as employment or caring responsibilities.
RSA Blackadder Houston Mid-Career Travel Award (£5,000)
This annual award of £5,000 provides a travel and research opportunity for a mid-career painter. The aim of this award is to enable a committed painter to carry out research, development and production of new work through international travel.
To be eligible for the awards, entrants must be mid-career painters who are at least 15 years out of art school or can demonstrate at least 15 years of substantive practice. Entrants must not be currently studying. The selected artists must also have been born, or currently living, in Scotland (and have been for at least 3 years consecutively).
The awards are funded by the RSA Blackadder Houston Bequest and administered by the Royal Scottish Academy.
The deadline for both applications is Sunday 1 October 2023, 5pm.
