Stills are Seeking Board Members
Closing date 7 June 2021
Stills is a centre for photography based in the heart of Edinburgh. Established in 1977, we have a long history of supporting the advancement, practice, enjoyment, exploration & understanding of photography. Stills is highly regarded for ground-breaking exhibitions; its Stills School creative learning programme; photography courses; & state of the art production facilities. We have recently reopened following the UK lockdown & are initiating a new programme of work making this an exciting time to join our Board of Directors. Board members give up their time voluntarily & as a minimum commitment we expect members to attend quarterly Board meetings & an annual strategy day. Appointments are made for a 4-year term with the option of a 2-year extension. As a member of the Board, you will play a key role in the governance & strategic direction of Stills.
Stills is committed to developing a Board that better reflects the diversity of our audiences & draws upon the variety of perspectives that society has to offer. We encourage applications from all candidates, particularly those who share one or more of the protected characteristics set out in the Equality Act 2010. This way, we hope to expand representation at leadership level in areas such as disability, gender reassignment & race. It is not essential for applicants to have previous Board experience.
We are seeking individuals with a passion for the visual arts, particularly those with knowledge & experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Visual Art (especially photography/lens-based media)
• Creative Learning & Education
• Human Resources
• Public Relations, Press/Media
• Business Development
Stills will provide:
• Full Board induction & introduction to Stills’ work & the staff team.
• The option to attend meetings in person or online via Zoom/video conferencing software.
• Flexible meeting times to fit around member’s other commitments.
• Reimbursement of reasonable travel expenses to & from meetings.
• Complimentary access to Stills courses & production facilities.
• A rewarding experience of leadership & being involved in the successful organisational development of a key organisation within Scotland’s visual arts sector.
