We are excited to announce an opening for a Sourdough Baker at Narture’s Sourdough Bakery, located at 3 Cathcart Street, Ayr. If you’re a passionate, ambitious, and motivated individual looking to develop your career in a growing social enterprise, this is the role for you! Narture brings together food and the arts, focusing on producing sustainable local products and creative projects that promote health and wellbeing within our local communities. As our new Sourdough Baker, you’ll play a crucial role in developing our award winning, sourdough products and managing the day-to-day operations of the bakery.
About Narture CIC:
Narture CIC (Community Interest Company) is a social enterprise founded in June 2020 by artist father-daughter duo Robert and Saskia Singer. Born during the pandemic, Narture began by re-purposing vacant town centre spaces for creative and cultural use. Today, Narture thrives as an inclusive creative hub, combining food and art to bring communities together and inspire positive change.
Narture’s award-winning sourdough bakery and café are the primary income sources, with all profits reinvested into local creative projects. Narture Studios and Make at Newmarket Street hosts artist studios, a community darkroom, a Riso printer, and a space for exhibitions, workshops, and events focused on:

Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily sourdough production, using our 72-hour process focused on taste and gut health.
- Be available for early starts from 5am, ensuring the sourdough schedule is maintained.
- Daily tasks include weighing, mixing a range of doughs, shaping, and baking our range of breads and patisserie products.
- Supply our Bread Shop directly across the road and provide our wholesale clients with high-quality sourdough products.
- Ensure compliance with hygiene, health, and safety regulations.
- Manage stock levels and order necessary supplies.
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the bakery.
- Train and supervise bakery staff.
- Research and develop new product lines.
- Maintain cleanliness and ensure operational efficiency in the bakery.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: An ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced bakery environment, previous experience of at least 1 year in a bakery or kitchen environment is desirable.
- Process Knowledge: You must understand the art of natural fermentation, as we do not use commercial yeast. Our approach is fully handmade, crafting artisan products from natural ingredients.
- Qualifications: A food hygiene certificate is preferred (but training can be provided if needed).
- Passion: For naturally fermented breads and pastries with emphasis of healthy ingredients.
- Quality: Strong attention to detail and a passion for creating high-quality baked goods.

Pay: £25,000.00 per year – £27,500 (negotiable dependent on experience)
Ability to commute/relocate: Ayr, KA7 1BJ: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
