John McDougall
About
John McDougall is a curator and photographic artist based in Glasgow. He is interested in where performance and participation combine with the political and civil, creating new languages and structures around artistic practices and audience perceptions of the arts.
Working with photographic, written and discursive outputs McDougall seeks to deconstruct standard and accepted modes of delivery in contemporary art and create something which not only delivers accessibility, but provides a sense of cultural ownership to a wider, more varied audience.
Past projects have included the Milk Shots series of publications and exhibitions which is currently working towards its 4th instalment. As Assistant Manager of Six Foot Gallery he oversaw a number of exhibitions, events and workshops including the SFG Month of Photography which celebrated various facets of Scottish and International photography in 2015. He also worked on the 2014Frames project with various collaborators from Glasgow School of Art, Talk See Photography and independent artists and curators internationally.
John holds an MLitt in Curatorial Practices (Contemporary Art) from Glasgow School of Art and a 1st Class BA(Hons) in Photography from University West of Scotland.
