Tessa J Fitzjohn
Tessa J Fitzjohn is an independent curator producer. She has over twelve years experience of developing public engaged arts projects for museums, galleries and the public realm.
As a past Arts Council Officer, Tessa has experience of delivering strategic initiatives for both the South East and South West regions. Organisations and major projects Tessa was responsible for include Photoworks; Aspex Gallery, Ruskin School, University of Oxford, Brighton Photo Biennial and Whitstable Biennale.
Her interest lies in commissioning work that focus on enquiry, engagement and active collaboration between place and public, they focus on deepening the visitor experience and creative interpretation.
Her most recent project is Macduff Revival a contemporary art programme whose name refers to ‘a renewal’ or ‘improvement in fortunes’. It aims to use contemporary art to raise the profile of Macduff by revealing and re-interpreting its history, the place and Aberdeenshire culture.
Resilience Lab: an uncertain world with research partner The Cabot Institute, Bristol University, co-curated with Aldo Rinaldi is an example of her approach. The programme includes a series of five artist residencies and public art commissions with artists Marinela Senatore, Marvin Gaye Chetwynd, Fourthland, Mariele Nuedecker, Marjetica Potrc and Ooze.
