About

A graduate of the Ceramics Department of the Glasgow School of Art, I’ve developed a broad perspective on the value of creativity to Scotland’s cultural, economic and social life.

Ceramics had not been my first choice; redirected from Fine Art/ Painting to Ceramics, I discovered I ‘knew’ clay and could use it to express a deep affinity with a culture and heritage that had making and the land at its core (as a first generation ‘off the island’; the granddaughter of a crofter weaver from the Isle of Lewis).

I’ve also worked at operational and strategic level within the creative-led regeneration sector, where my approach, commitment, dedication and support for creative practitioners and genuine ‘grass-roots’ cultural activity has underpinned my creative and professional practice.

In addition to re-establishing my own ceramics practice, I’m currently Programmes Manager for Dumfries & Galloway Unlimited, a membership organisation that advocates, supports and promotes the region’s vibrant creative sector.

I’m also a keen amateur singer with The Glasgow School of Art Choir, an amateur, non-auditioned chorus established in 2012.  It performs to a standard far above that of an average amateur group and has gained a reputation for outstanding musical discipline, with a commitment to expanding the repertoire and musicianship of its members.
