Commissions Programme Announcement | Edinburgh Art Festival
Edinburgh Art Festival is delighted to announce further details of artists participating in the 16th edition of the festival, running from 25 July – 25 August.
In 2019, as we continue to witness major geo-political and societal shifts, the Commissions Programme brings together five artists with new projects which reflect the uncertain times we find ourselves in, poised between the disintegration of an old world order, and taking the initial faltering steps towards an unknown future. Participating artists Nathan Coley, Alfredo Jaar, Rosalind Nashashibi, Sriwhana Spong and Corin Sworn will create new work for ‘Stories for an Uncertain World’.
Platform: 2019 will showcase artists based in Scotland at the beginning of their careers. Anna Danielewicz, Joanne Dawson, Harry Maberly and Suds McKenna will create new work reflecting a wide range of different themes and approaches to art making: including the study of urban crowds through drawing; the phenomenon of fandom and re-enactment; explorations of waste and sustainability through fiction; and the socio-political histories of smocking.
