DOK Artist Space to close the end of January 2019.

Today, DOK Artist Space in Leith, announced that it will close in its current form from February 2019.

DOK is a non-profit contemporary artist run space that offers affordable studio and exhibition space to primarily Scottish based artists although we also work with visual artists internationally. One of the key driving factors behind the project is the lack of affordable and unique artist studio and exhibition space in Edinburgh.

The statement read as follows:

DOK Artist Space will no longer exist in its current form from the end of January 2019. Due to the land being developed by an independent Whisky Distillery the shed is having to be relocated before the work can commence. We are unsure who will take over usage of the shed but have been assured it won’t be demolished.

Sadly, we cannot compete with larger corporations and due to financial restraints, time and other life commitments we are unable to carry on in our current state with permanent premises. We do however still aim to be active in organising several pop-up events during the year, so please do keep an eye on our social media for details. We hope that you can give continued support by being involved or attending future exhibitions.

Every person that has walked through the doors of the shed was in awe of what is undoubtedly a unique one-off space. We have enjoyed every minute of it and could not be where we are today without your support.

Finally, we would like to thank all the amazingly talented artists that we have worked with since the idea became a reality in 2015 and wish every one of you a fantastic future. We will look forward to seeing you all at a farewell event on 25th January to which everyone will be invited. Details to follow.
