SCAN backs UK-wide calls for extension of Museums and Galleries Exhibition Tax Relief
We’re backing our equivalent organisation in England, CVAN, in calls to extend the vital Museums and Galleries Exhibition Tax Relief Scheme.
In July, the DCMS Select Committee reported on its inquiry into the impact of Covid-19 on the culture sector. The CVAN Team said:
‘We are very disappointed that the DCMS Select Committee report, Impact of Covid-19 on DCMS Sectors, released on 23 July 2020, did not explicitly feature the visual arts.’
‘We are also very concerned that the extension of the Museums and Galleries Exhibition Tax Relief scheme will not be considered and should be continued beyond this year’s sunset clause. The Select Committee report calls only for an increase to Theatre Tax Relief and the introduction of a Music Tax Relief.’
The Museums and Galleries Exhibition Tax Relief scheme provides essential income for the whole ecology and scale of national museums and galleries, including artist-led spaces and studio providers.
