SCAN evidence to Scottish Parliament

- 30 August 2022

SCAN has submitted evidence to the Scottish Parliament’s Culture Committee (CEEAC) in advance of the culture budget for 2023-24. We emphasised that much work needs to be done, and investment provided, so that the cultural sector can keep providing great outcomes for communities across Scotland. We stressed the crisis that SCAN members are facing due to the cost of living, inflation, and energy price increases as we seek to recover from the impacts of the pandemic. We shared the different challenges faced by our members, from freelance artists on low incomes to organisations facing steeply rising utility costs.

Amongst the measures proposed by our colleagues across the cultural sector to increase investment in the arts, we continue to support the introduction of a Transient Visitor Levy and a “% for art” scheme, which fixes arts investment as a proportion of national infrastructure spend.
