Beyond Belief

Throughout her career in textile design and manufacture, Joanie Jack has worked extensively in education, including at The Glasgow School of Art and many other institutions, where she encouraged students to explore ideas, develop skills and produce innovative collections.

Joanie now focuses on creating her own work, drawing on a rich exposure to decorative narratives and symbolic language while exploring relationships and emotions. Her practice centres on repurposing materials and allowing them to speak anew.

Using stitching as a drawing tool – into and onto fabric – she layers embellishment and mixed media to create striking, momentous pieces. These tactile works range from fabrics designed to be worn or handled interactively to sculptural textile forms intended simply to be experienced and observed.
