Porcelain & Paper Clay

About the Workshop

During this class your tutor Kevin will introduce participants to the basics of working with porcelain and paper clay. This class is suitable for beginners and intermediate students who wish to further their skills and practice.

During the class you will have the option to make a vessel or jewellery which will use the unique qualities of porcelain, such as it’s translucence when fired, and the flexibility of paper clay. You will learn to prepare the clay before designing and making your pieces. All work will be fired here at the centre.

• Introduction to the materials of porcelain and paper clay.
• Demonstrations in making paper clay casting slip
• Making porcelain paper clay casting slip and clay
• Pouring porcelain paper clay casting slip on plaster batts to make thin sheets
• Demonstrations of slip casting
• Demonstrations of colouring porcelain and paper clay
• Hand building using porcelain paper clay cast sheets
• Hand building using porcelain and porcelain paper clay

Materials are provided and available to purchase at the centre.
