Museums and Galleries Exhibition Tax Relief: An open Letter to Chancellor Rishi Sunak

SCAN have written to Rishi Sunak, Chancellor of the Exchequer and Oliver Dowden, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to urge them to continue and expand a scheme which allows museums and galleries to recover some of the costs of creating and touring exhibitions. The money recovered by organisations through this route is unrestricted, and therefore hugely useful for programming, staffing and other organisation costs. The scheme is called Museum and Gallery Exhibition Tax Relief (MGETR) and is currently open to organisations registered as charities.

SCAN believe the scheme is a way for small and large organisations in Scotland to enhance their budgets, and will be working in the coming months to raise awareness of the scheme and support those yet to claim.

We are working with organisations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to lobby the UK Government to continue and expand this powerful scheme.

See our Museums and Galleries Exhibition Tax Relief resource page to learn more about MGETR and ways you can act to support this vital stream of income.
