MGETR – can you benefit from this vital scheme?

Arts funding - 29 October 2021

Are you a charitable organisation that stages exhibitions? Did you know you might be eligible for financial support through the government scheme called MGETR (Museums and Galleries Tax Relief)?

This vital scheme allows museums and galleries to recover some of the costs of creating and touring exhibitions. The money recovered by organisations through this route is unrestricted, and therefore hugely useful for programming, staffing and other organisation costs.

We believe MGETR is a way for small and large organisations in Scotland to enhance their budgets, and we are currently working with partners from across the UK to raise awareness of the scheme and support those yet to claim.

SCAN has set up a Scottish Working Group to share information about how to claim and you can contact us if you need help to access the scheme.

Here are six short films covering what the tax relief is, who is eligible and how you can claim.

In this video, Kate Gray shares how the Museums & Galleries Exhibition Tax Relief has helped Collective since they re-opened in 2018.

You can also check out case studies from organisations who have experience of working with the MGETR Scheme here.

SCAN members that have benefited from this scheme include Dundee Contemporary Arts and The Common Guild and you can read their case studios in the download below.
