Remembering Rose Frain

We were very sorry to hear about the passing of prolific artist and SCAN member Rose Frain earlier this month.
Rose is best remembered by the SCAN team and a spirited and vivid contributor at our 2022 Summit, and we were comforted to learn from Rose’s family that she was a proud member of our organisation.
Rose Frain was a visual artist based in Edinburgh and had exhibited both nationally and internationally. Her work is held in a number of collections including National Galleries of Scotland, City Art Centre Scotland, New York Public Library and Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
Continual Project ‘This Time in History’ identified critical moments in the context of geo-social justice, contemporary conflict, migration and displacement. These works were often realised as room sized installations, featuring contrasts of scale and format. An Art360 Foundation Scotland bursary allowed Rose to conserve and promote her artistic legacy – more than five decades of art making. You can view a short film created by Art360 about Rose and her work here.
Catalogue Raisonne was published in 2019, a document of Rose’s extensive career including a full chronology and critical context of her work, images and artist authored texts.
