Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance for galleries and studios

As we enter a further period of restrictions, we wanted to remind you of the relevant guidance for the those working in the visual arts. From Boxing Day, mainland Scotland will be placed in Tier 4 which unfortunately means closure of all museums and galleries.

Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles will be placed in Tier 3, in which museums and galleries can open providing there are physical distancing and hygiene measures in place.

For studios and shared workspaces, people are advised to work from home wherever practicable in both Tiers 3 and 4. However, for those unable to work from home studios can remain open for production/manufacturing activity with suitable mitigations in place to reduce the risk of the virus.

You can read guidance for museums and galleries here.

Guidance for studios and shared workspaces is here.

We know that the forthcoming restrictions, and associated closures, will be hitting you and your colleagues hard. We’re currently running a survey with Scottish Artists Union to get an updated picture of how the past year has impacted the visual arts workforce, and we will be continuing to lobby Government and stakeholders for the right support for our community as we enter 2021.

We will update this information as and when any new information is provided.

Wishing you all a safe and peaceful winter break.
