Our Artists’ Short Film Programme for SCAN Summit 2025

As a precursor to SCAN Summit 2025: The Grid SCAN has programmed an evening of artists’ short film, delving further into the themes explored in the main symposium. Taking place at Eden Court in Inverness on Monday 12 May – the evening before Summit – this curated programme reflects a broad range of filmmaking practice from edited heritage documentary footage to utopian sci-fi, threaded together by themes of power in both literal and conceptual terms.
The programme consists of:
- Ursula Mayer’s Atom Spirit (2016, 19 mins) set in Trinidad and Tobago, presenting a postcolonial vision of a techno-utopia with an evocative soundtrack
- Emily Richardson’s Immaterial Terrain (2023, 8 mins) documenting the singular and fragile landscape around Sizewell C nuclear power plant at an uncertain moment
- Gair Dunlop’s Atom Town: life after technology (2011, 23 mins) exploring Scotland’s legacy of nuclear power
We’re delighted that artist-filmmaker Gair Dunlop will join SCAN for a Q&A following the screening.
Tickets are available now via Eventbrite. Ticketing is on a sliding scale – choose what you can afford to pay based on your own circumstances or choose to attend free of charge. This operates on a trust system and no evidence will be required on the day or at the point of booking.
This event is part of SCAN Summit 2025: The Grid, SCAN’s annual flagship symposium, and takes place the evening before the main programme at Eden Court. Tickets for the Artists’ Short Film Programme should be booked separately. For tickets to the main programme, please click here.
