#UnwrapArt 2024: Festive Markets

#UnwrapArt is SCAN’s annual campaign inviting the public to support Scotland’s artists and makers while buying gifts and experiences that loved ones will treasure. As we launch this year’s campaign, we’re highlighting upcoming festive markets and fairs hosted by our members – ideal for stocking up on unique gifts and seeing the breadth of creative work being produced by artists, makers and designers across Scotland.

GSS Festive Sale
Glasgow Sculpture Studios, 29–30 November

SCAN members Niamh Moloney, Elke Finkenauer and Jolanta Dolewska are among the studio holders selling their wares at the Glasgow Sculpture Studios Festive Sale at the Whisky Bond.

Feminist Festive Fayre
Glasgow Women’s Library, 30 November

Glasgow Women’s Library present their very first festive fayre, featuring stalls, badge-making, a bake sale and a raffle, as well as the launch of a brand new range of GWL merch.

Artists’ Tuck Shop Pop-up Design Store
Blackhill Bakery, Glasgow, 1 December

Artists’ Tuck Shop presents a festive version of their regular pop-up at Scotstoun’s Blackhill Bakery, featuring gifts and homewares all with a foodie theme.

V&A Dundee Winter Design Market
Glasgow Sculpture Studios, 29 November–1 December

Hosted by pop-up experts Tea Green Events, this market features work from Scotland’s best independent designers and makers, including recent graduates from local art school DJCAD.

Hugo Burge Foundation Christmas Market
Marchmont Estate, 7 December

Head to the Scottish Borders for this rural winter market, complemented by hands-on demonstrations from local artisans, a drop-in wreath making workshop, Christmas carols and mulled wine.

Wasps Winter Markets
Inverness Creative Academy, 29 November–1 December
Glasgow Briggait, 7–8 December

Wasps’ studio complexes in Inverness and Glasgow host markets this winter, with the chance to pick up artwork, homeware, jewellery and cards from resident artists and the wider creative community alike.

Jupiter Christmas Fair
Jupiter Artland, Edinburgh, 7–8 December

The lush surrounds of Jupiter Artland get a festive makeover for the annual Christmas Fair, where visitors can browse stalls, enjoy mulled wine and street food, and watch seasonal live music.

Endless Love Creative Makers Market
Fruitmarket, Edinburgh, 8 December

Browse ceramics, jewellery, botanicals, print, illustration and homeware in Fruitmaket’s Warehouse space, try your hand at embroidery and aromatherapy in the Studio, and take away some ‘not just for kids’ balloon art.

Newmarket St Winter Festival
Narture, Ayr, 14 December

SCAN member Narture hosts this all-day festival, with stalls of handmade gifts by local artists, as well as workshops, children’s face painting, and a riso Christmas card demo.

Strange Field Christmas Market
French Street, Glasgow, 14 December

Head to the East End of Glasgow for an artists’ market at Strange Field suitable for all (or no) budgets – with stalls, hot and cold refreshments, music, a mending station and a clothes swap.
