#UnwrapArt: Members’ Shops

#UnwrapArt is SCAN’s annual campaign inviting the public to support Scotland’s artists and makers while buying gifts and experiences that loved ones will treasure. This week, we’re bringing you a gift guide featuring homeware, jewellery, stationery and more sourced from our members’ shops, which you can find online and all over Scotland.

Glasgow Women’s Library: Logo Patches
£8 each or £35 for five

The ideal stocking filler for the feminist in your life, these sew-on patches feature logos from the Glasgow Women’s Library archives, lovingly made by local studio Wild & Kind CIC.

ATLAS Arts: A Walk Around Portree Tea Towel

Buying for someone with ties to Skye? They’ll love this beautiful tea towel featuring a map by J. Maizlish Mole, part of ATLAS Art’s Mapping Portree and the Isle of Skye project.

Out of the Blueprint: Riso Tarot Deck

Everyone has a friend who loves tarot, and this unique risographed deck from Edinburgh-based Out of the Blueprint makes a perfect, affordable present. Featuring designs from 26 artists, the full deck can be purchased for £20, or you can order three randomly selected cards as mini stocking fillers for £3.

Jupiter Artland: Café Party Side Plate

If you’ve been to Jupiter Artland, you’ll know the café’s chic and whimsical tablewear designed by artist Nicolas Party. Selected pieces are now available to buy, from teapots and aprons to this surrealist side plate, with proceeds benefitting Jupiter’s learning programme.

Neuk Collective: Nature is Queer Poster

Founded in 2020, Neuk is a collective of neurodivergent artists from across Scotland, working across print, jewellery, zines, painting and more. The collective’s gift guide allows you to buy directly from the artists – plenty of people on our gift list would love this colourful queer nature poster from The Foraging Gardener.

East Nook Studio: Rock Pool Studs

These cute earrings form part of a coastal-inspired collection by Alana Peden, founder of East Nook Studio in St Andrews, where you’ll find a shop filled with work from makers across Fife and Dundee. The studio also runs jewellery making courses, if anyone on your present list is looking to get making.

Welcome Home at CCA: Under the Sea Mirror

The CCA in Glasgow is home to two specialist shops: art bookstore Aye Aye Books and homeware and gift shop Welcome Home. Both are ideal for stocking up on artistic gifts – we love this 3D printed vanity mirror by Wobbly Digital, available from Welcome Home.

Collective: Monuments Mobile

Featuring black and white photography by Alan Dimmick, this mobile serves as a multi-faceted portrait of Collective gallery’s home at Calton Hill, Edinburgh, and was commissioned as part of a souvenir-themed collection by design curators Panel.

Project Ability: Christmas Cards
£8 for a pack of eight

Of course, you can’t forget the cards when Christmas shopping! Head to Project Ability for this year’s card pack, featuring four different designs by two of their artists, John Cocozza and Gary Turner.

The Modern Institute: Sue Tompkins editions
£250 (unframed)

The Modern Institute’s shop has just been relaunched, and now includes new collections of affordable works by gallery artists. We love these witty, colourful works by Sue Tompkins. There’s also a selection of books – including lots on sale – if your budget is a little smaller.

Scottish Artists Union: Tote Bag

No art-adjacent gift guide would be complete without a tote bag. Show your support for artists’ fair pay and support the Scottish Artists Union with this one.

Fife Contemporary: Carers’ Collection Pack

A beautiful selection of notebooks and a tea towel designed by carers, as part of Fife Contemporary project offering much needed creative respite for carers in the local community.

Govanhill Baths: Cheeky Apron

Made from recycled M&S promotional banners, these saucy aprons are a perfect way to support Glasgow makers and reuse material destined for landfill. Each one is totally unique, too.

V&A Dundee: Pick and Mix Cushion Cover

The V&A shop is a perennial favourite for cultural gifts, and the Dundee outpost is no exception. Head to their online and in-person shop for a range of exclusive products, including this playful cushion cover by Karen Mabon, inspired by objects in the museum’s Scottish Design gallery.

Street Level Photoworks: The Inner Circle Book

Most of our members’ shops have a books offering, and Street Level Photoworks in Glasgow is one of the best. Choose from exhibition publications, international photographer monographs and books documenting local life – this Graham Gavin book of photographs from the ’90s is a surefire winner.
