PERMEABLE TRANSITIONS | Weekend Residential with Helen Cammock
Closing date 12 January 2026
LUX Scotland and Hospitalfield will host a new Weekend Residential event devised by artist Helen Cammock in March 2026, exploring the precarity of practice and guided creative risk-taking, alongside key aspects of Helen’s practice, through a programme of exercises, film screenings, discussions and meals.
The deadline for applications is 10am on Monday 12 January 2026.
Participants will be selected through a short application process open to artists, curators, programmers and writers who are based in Scotland and are interested in exploring some key questions in Helen’s practice within a small group setting. The participants will spend time together at Hospitalfield with Helen and members of the LUX Scotland team to discover, share and reflect on their own practices. The weekend will foster a contained moment of collective and individual exploration.
Helen is interested in ideas of the boundary; of transition; of inviting or experiencing a permeability. Taking certain themes in the work of Judith Butler and bell hooks as her starting point, she invites participants to think about these boundaries – of skin, of voice, of touch, of sight, of land – and the possibilities that emerge if we consciously cross them.
Participants will explore the idea that precarity often opens up liminal planes that may support the development of ideas and emotions. Guided by Helen, participants will be invited to make, conceive, read, watch, collaborate and share.
To apply to take part in this event please complete the application form. Please email Aqsa Arif ([email protected]) if you have any questions about the event or the application process.
The deadline for applications is by 10am on Monday 12 January.
LUX Scotland Learning Programme Manager, Aqsa Arif and Hospitalfield Residency Programme Manager, Rahel Levine will select participants based on who would most benefit from this group learning experience and will aim to select participants from across Scotland.
The selected applicants will be notified by 5pm on 21 January 2026.
