SCAN Director role
Can you advocate for Scotland’s contemporary art community? We’re looking for someone to lead Scotland’s member-led network for contemporary art in our next stage. SCAN is recruiting a new Director to deliver our vision of a Scotland where everyone has the right, and the opportunity, to experience the benefits of contemporary art.
Our new Director will provide strategic and operational direction for SCAN at a key moment. The Director will listen to our membership and the wider sector and work in partnership to develop strategic and high impact advocacy, development and engagement activities, act as an advocate for contemporary visual art, and uphold the organisation’s values.
We are looking for a Director who, with the support of our board, staff, membership and partners, will ensure that artists, art professionals and art organisations are supported in their aims, valued for their contribution, and resourced for change. The role is suitable for someone who can bring knowledge of cultural work, commitment to change and the potential to respond to fast moving circumstances.

Salary: £40,000 (pro rata salary 32,000 if contracted at 0.8FTE)
Place of Work: The role will be based at the SCAN office at the Briggait in Glasgow. We currently offer hybrid and flexible working patterns where reasonable and appropriate. This role requires some core office time, occasional evening and weekend working, and travel across Scotland for member contact and events.
Contract: The role is envisaged as permanent, with a three-month probation period and the option of working full time or at 0.8 FTE. However, SCAN is currently awaiting the outcome of our multi-year funding application to Creative Scotland and therefore the role is advertised subject to funding arrangements. This information will be available when we interview in February 2025 and candidates will have the opportunity to discuss a range of work patterns and options.
