About
Gair Dunlop makes artworks exploring the interconnections of people, places, and technologies. Often collaborative, they investigate and play with different eras of discovery, social change and propaganda. The core interest is in dreams of progress and their transmission. Project materials include archive, contemporary, and absurdist visions of technology and entropy. Finished works include single screen films, multichannel video installations, site specific and interactive works.
He collaborates with residents, archivists, geographers, musicians, archaeologists and organisations, in work which straddles contemporary practice and social engagement.
His work has been seen at Kassel International Documentary Festival, the RSA, Manchester International Festival, Street Level Glasgow, Timespan Helmsdale, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, GFT, The Wellcome Trust, and many more locations.
A series of online collaborations with Dan Norton under the name of Ablab + Dunlop have resumed.
Gair Dunlop is a member of Cutlog Artist Moving Image, a group of artists in east and central Scotland working to expand visibiity and opportunities for moving image artists.
