Scottish Government Culture Sector Support survey and briefing paper

Cultural policy - 24 January 2025

The Scottish Government is planning to undertake an independent review of support for culture in Scotland which includes an examination of the remit and functions of Creative Scotland as the lead body for the arts, screen and creative industries in the country. The review will be Chaired by Dame Sue Bruce.

To help shape the scope and terms of reference for the review, the Scottish Government has launched a survey to gather views on how and why culture is supported in Scotland, and what needs to change to best meet the needs of the sector going forward. SCAN encourages members to complete the survey, which can be accessed here, before the closing date of Friday 31 January.

While the survey is designed to capture the views of individuals and organisations, SCAN notes that questions appear weighted towards gathering organisational perspectives. This is something that we will reflect in our briefing, noting the value and importance of the views of creative freelancers being fully represented within the process of the review, and the need for appropriate frameworks to be put in place to enable this.

With input from membership, SCAN has developed a briefing paper outlining priorities that the review should be tasked with delivering. You may find this helpful when completing the survey and it can be downloaded at the link below.
