Emily McLennan is an artist and tutor based in Stirlingshire who has developed a deeply thoughtful practice rooted in environmental awareness and the natural world. Her inspiration stems from the intricate networks found in nature – the way mycelium weaves beneath the forest floor, fostering communication and resilience between trees. This sense of interconnectedness informs her work, as does a profound concern for biodiversity loss and environmental degradation. Emily’s practice invites us to slow down, reconnect with the land, and recognise the responsibility we each hold in caring for our ecosystems and communities.
Throughout 2025, Emily has spent time at Tir na nOg woodland near Balfron Station, drawing creative energy from the landscape. The resulting series, Rooted, is a compelling body of place-based work that speaks to nature’s quiet wisdom and the potential for human communities to reflect that same spirit of support and cooperation. The collection is being shown in the woodland gallery at Tir na nOg.
