About

Strange Field provides opportunities for creative experimentation, learning, and development, with a focus on underrepresented and early-stage career artists, and our local community, at both French Street and The Pipe Factory in Glasgow’s East End.

Our vision is for accessible creative platforms to be embedded across Glasgow, at the heart of communities as catalysts for increased creative development, education and experimentation, and inclusion.

We do this by building a network of creative practitioners and educators that facilitate, support, and share work that is vital to the wellbeing of artists and the communities in which they exist.

We deliver a curated programme of exhibitions, events, residencies, and workshops, working in partnership with artists, organisations, and local communities.

Alongside our exhibition programme, our community learning programme aims to create a supportive, accessible space where people of all ages and backgrounds can learn, make, grow and connect through art and heritage. This includes:

  • Strange Exchange, an arts education library and community learning space. We share books, publications, and other resources related to alternative and artist-led education, play and collaboration.
  • Kiln Klub, an open access ceramic studio offering drop-in sessions and a supportive membership programme.
  • Murmuration, our artist in residency programme that partners early career artist educators with East End learning spaces and community projects.
  • History of Ourselves, our community-led programme of events, activities and research projects celebrating the social history of Glasgow’s East End through the voices and experiences of local people.
  • Loom Large – a creative arts programme for older adults in the east end community.
