Artists Make a Better World

ABOUT THE PROJECT
Artists Make a Better World is SCAN’s summer 2023 campaign to encourage policymakers to support contemporary art and share with the public the many ways that artists contribute to Scotland’s wellbeing.
Through the campaign, we’re highlighting the role that artists have in improving our everyday lives, and the impact that learning skills from artists and taking part in creative activities can have on health and happiness. In particular we want to emphasise that:
- Artists make us healthier and happier
- Artists make artists out of everyone
- Artists make communities stronger
- Artists make our everyday world
- Artists make space for different voices
As part of the campaign, Scotland’s MSPs will be invited to visit our members in their studios, galleries, venues and production facilities at the end of August, to find out first-hand about the important role of artists and arts organisations in their constituencies.
In September we’ll make the argument for culture in the next Scottish Budget., reminding MSPs about how best to support artists, and how fair pay and sustainable funding for culture is essential.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
We are inviting our supporters across Scotland to show they are backing artists by using the hashtag #ABetterWorld on social, sharing the campaign assets and taking photos or recording messages of support.
We’d also love for as many members as possible to host MSPs at their studio spaces, galleries, workshops and venues. The link at the bottom of the page includes all the resources that members need to get involved.
